The Very First Confession
By Yours Truly
How It Started
It all started 10 years ago when my daughter was in kindergarten. Valentine’s Day somehow crept upon us that particular year, and when I dropped my sweet little girl off at school I committed an unforgivable crime. I was the mom that forgot to send her child to school with a batch of flimsy, throw-away-as-soon-as-you-get-home Valentine’s cards. Yes, those sweet little… nothings.
It wasn’t until I was heading to work that I realized the colossal mistake I had just made. All day long, I worried about my daughter. Did I scar her for life? Was she left out completely? Did her kinder bestie drop her like a bad habit? How much therapy will she need?

I just knew that the Pinterest Mom Patrol would be waiting for me at the after-school carpool line to revoke my parenting license. Look, to my defense, I was a divorced, working mother who carried the crushing guilt that my sub-optimal parenting and inability to keep up with the perfect moms club was going to permanently scar my babies for life. I mean, between feeding my kids frozen pizza on a school night and staring off into la-la land during homework time – crushing it as a mom had a totally different meaning for me.
When it was finally time to pick my daughter up from school, she handed me my verbal citation with a few tears and accusations. I was guilty as charged. Feeling like the tool of a mom I was that day, I remember thinking, “Man, mommas need a place where we can be real, share our crushing guilt, and find relief in shared feelings. And, even if we mess up along the way, as long as we love our kids and ourselves, then it will all turn out okay.”
So, my friends, that’s when the idea for this marvelous mom community was born. Boom!
Confessions of Imperfect Moms is about normalizing mommy imperfections while kicking mom shame and guilt to the curb.
We’re all about being a part of a motherhood where being unapologetically you is not only essential, but required.
We’re here to remind you that when your needs are met, everyone is happier— including your babies.
We’re here to remind you that you are not alone in the thick of the chaos.
We’re here to celebrate the messy and oh-so-beautiful journey that is motherhood, share tips along the way, and even laugh at some of our not-so-proud moments.
Oh and if you’re wondering, how my darling daughter is doing after her kindergarten Valentine’s Day fiasco…
Well, it’s been ten years, and all memories of that traumatic day have been forgotten.
It’s safe to say my parenting license is still valid, my daughter still loves me, and I am still as guilty as they come. Take that Pinterest Mom Patrol!
Free from the imprisonment of the perfect mom mindset, this confession has been brought to you by yours truly — a proud imperfect mom for life.

Why We Love Imperfection
We have seen it, we have heard it, we have experienced it, and quite frankly — we are sick of it — the dreaded mom shame.
We are tired of moms feeling put down by other moms, the media, or some other looming authority simply because their version of parenting doesn’t match what works for another family.
It’s absolutely frustrating!
Being a mom can be and should be a joyous time without the sense of competition and guilt. We put enough pressure on ourselves without having to endure it from those who should be our biggest supporters — other moms. That’s why our goal is to create a safe space for moms to be their most authentic selves without judgment.
Let’s stand up for each other, grow together, and raise some rockstar kids while we’re at it.
